Prong Classes
Basic Prong Settings:
OBJECTIVE
Prong settings can be the perfect way to showcase your favorite cabochons.
Prongs are clean, minimal, and easy to learn with even the most basic metalsmithing skills.
This is a one-day workshop that will cover two basic styles of prong setting. The first is a simple X-style prong, and the second is a multi-prong setting with a frame backing.
This technique is for cabochons and flat stones only, and we will be using sterling silver for all of the projects covered.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Beginner metalsmiths are welcome but some prior soldering experience is required.
MATERIALS NEEDED
Students are free to bring in their own stones and metals, but everything you need will also be available for purchase from the instructor.
ATTIRE
Please bring an apron with you, sawing creates silver dust. Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Long hair needs to be tied back, and long sleeves/jewelry/watches should not be worn while working with drills, torches, polishing wheels, etc.
